FAQs

Is my home in a high wildfire risk area?

When preparing for wildfire season, this is great information to have. To understand what your risk of fire is, it is best to consult your county’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) - we have a list of Northeast Oregon County CWPPs on our Resources page.

Can I join an existing Firewise® Community?

If you live within the boundaries of an existing Firewise® community, your first step to getting involved is to reach out to the community contact for that region. Navigate to the community you wish to join through our Communities tab at the top of the page and find contact information for that community on their page.

Is it expensive to start or join a Firewise® Community?

Participating in Firewise® is free and many of the steps you can take to protect yourself and your community are free. For larger projects, like preparing your forested land, there are limited grants and funds you can apply for to help offset the costs.

Are there things I can do to decrease my wildfire risk outside of Firewise®?

Absolutely! There is a long list of great resources on our Resources page that can get you started on your way to becoming Firewise®.

How do i get a firewise® page on this website?

To be included on the website you just need to be a) a certified Firewise® Community and b) located in Northeast Oregon. If you check both those boxes, then contact our region’s Firewise® Coordinator for more information.
